The Ogu General Assembly (OGA) has paid tribute to the late #Akran of Badagry, His Imperial Majesty De Whéno, #Àhộlú Menu-Toyi I, celebrating his life as one devoted to the advancement of the Ogu people both locally and globally.

The delegation, led by Prof. Jendele Hungbo, visited the palace on January 22, 2026, to offer solidarity to the royal family and the council of chiefs, following the monarch’s passing on January 12 after a distinguished 49-year reign.

Prof. Hungbo described the late Akran as a unifying figure whose influence extended beyond Lagos State, connecting the Ogu diaspora with their roots and positioning Badagry as a cultural and historical hub.

He praised the monarch’s dedication to peace, development, and the preservation of Ogu culture, highlighting his roles as an educator, journalist, and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

The OGA emphasised the importance of maintaining harmony during the succession, calling on the people of Badagry to avoid rivalries and continue the legacy of unity and development established by the late king.

The Assembly described his passing as a significant moment in Nigeria’s history and prayed for a smooth and peaceful transition of leadership, noting that upholding inter-ethnic cohesion would be the best way to honour the late monarch.
